Escape From a Parallel World By Lady Messenger

After only a few days, Messenger was able to find her way to what she believed to be the castle of Lord Blackthorn. She knew that if she could get inside she would find Lore Denin and free him. Together they could find a way to put a stop to his evil plans of destruction.

Darkness fell upon the land. Messenger knelt to the ground and caressed the grass of the land as if it were a blanket on the earth. She whispered softly, "May the Sisters Of Enchantment guard me and may the Virtues protect me." As she stood there quietly, the wind suddenly became stronger as if surrounding the Lady Messenger with a cloak. The fair Lady disappeared as if she were never there. She heard a faint voice say, "May this spell keep you invisible until you wish to be revealed fair lady, and when you wish to wear it again speak these words of enchantment. An Lor Xen. " She could only believe her sisters had somehow heard her and spoke these words in hopes of helping. She thanked them silently.

The castle was even more dreary inside then it was the outside. There was a faint stench that she could not recognize. Perhaps it was the essence of evil. Gaining entry to the castle was no great chore, as she was invisible to anyone. She knew though as she got further into the castle that the invisibility would not conceal her, for those most evil can see you even when you are hiding. She only hoped she could find a place out of sight before she was discovered.

Where would they be keeping Lore? After searching for what seemed hours throughout the castle. Room after dreary room she felt as if she were being watched. The reek had gotten worse and she felt as if she were about to be ill. She stopped and found a place to hide in the darkness. Laying down on the cold stone floor taking care careful not to be discovered. Her fears of someone being there were confirmed as she saw what looked like a man, but was as clearly not. She tried not to  gasp as she realized whom had been watching her. Or had he, she could only hope that her presence was not revealed.

She could hear the creature speak.

"Soon, soon we will not be confined to this land. We will once rule the worlds. No one or anything can stop us." Lord Blackthorn revealed his plans, he spoke as if there was someone there with him but she could not see anyone else there. She listened silently from the shadows for what seems to be hours. Who could he be talking to.. why was he revealing his plan as if he had never heard it before?

Her questions were answered. What she saw next was something she had never dreamed she would see in her lifetime. Her eyes filled with tears as she struggled to keep back the hurt and betrayal that had overcome her. She could not believe what she was seeing. It could not be true. This man was someone she loved, how could he betray her, betray the land and all who loved him.

"How could this be happening? How could he do this.?" Messenger lay in the same spot she had been in all night. The air is so thick here and the stench is far worse than it had been since her arrival in the palace. Hadn't he realized he was falling into a trap? Could he not see that this was all wrong? Lady Messenger clutched the crystal, it was her only hope to warn Lady Destiny of the danger that was headed her way.

Putting her disappointment and feelings of betrayal aside, Messenger knew what had to be done. As she remained hidden by the shadows of the dreary castle of the evil Lord Blackthorn she realized daylight would soon reveal her position. She could not risk being seen. Not now, not when she is so close to uncovering the truth. She had to get back, get out of lineage before it was too late.

She whispered the words the sisters had told her would conceal her. "An Lor Xen" She crept from the darkness and down the castle hall. She fled with a sense of urgency as she clung onto the crystal. As she followed the path of escape,  flash of light so bright, fell upon her so quickly that she did not know where she stood any longer. She felt weak all of a sudden and soon felt the cold floor on her back. The stench again, so close she felt ill. She could not move. Messenger knew she had been captured and tried to hide the crystal. The crystal she knew that if found, would destroy them all.

Darkness fell upon Messenger and when she awoke, she felt weak. She looked up as if in disbelief. Could this really be.. "M'lady, are you ok?" His voice was deep and filled with concern. Lord Taran had found Lady Messenger , disbelieving his eyes. He had seen what looked like someone sleeping and felt a need to make sure she was alright. When he gently pulled back her hair from her face he realized it was Messenger. He had heard that she had journeyed into lineage and feared her dead.

He was relieved when Messenger spoke softly as if in a dream. ..." the crystal.. " He held her until she became conscious again.

"M'lord... " she whispered. "Don't speak m'lady, you are very weak." He lifted her gently and took her to her cabin which was the closest place he could think of. He had not been there in so very long. He hoped that he would be able to get inside.

To his relief he was able to get inside and lay Messenger into her bed. She was so very weak. He watched over her while she slept.

Taran knew that it had been weeks since Messenger had departed Sosaria. He thought of the heartache she felt when last they talked. She had held out hope that her love would return to her. How she hated to finally admit that he was gone. She truly believed that it was her who had driven him away.

Lady Destiny arrived in the early morning. She found Taran asleep on the cold floor. She awoke him with a cup of tea she had made downstairs. "M'lord, I received word that you wished to speak me and that it was important." Lord Taran walked Destiny to Messenger's bedside. Destiny could not believe her eyes. " She has returned! Tis wonderful indeed!" Messenger heard the familiar voice of her friend and opened her eyes. She smiled at her dear friend. "M'lady, how did you get back? You had not used the crystal  in a good long while, I feared you were in great danger!

Messenger looked confused. What was this Destiny spoke of? Why did she look so worried? "What crystal do you speak of m'lady? Why have you feared for me? Have I been away?"

Info on Ryth:

Name: Ryth
Age: 84
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 164
Birthplace: Vesper
Known For: Not much is known about this man. What he has told us has checked out so far. He was a good friend of Basil when they both were very young in Vesper. Ryth wasn't of noble blood like Basil, but he was of a rich family. Basil and him both studied together. About the same time Basil turned to Chaos and founded the Cult, Ryth disappeared. No records can be found of him. He re-appeared a few years ago after spending almost an entire 12 years in Ilshenar studying the land. This man was responsible for reuniting the Cult. Was found dead in cell.

Dear folks of Britannia, I bring good news, or well good news to some of thee. Ryth, the leader of the Cult of the Black Dragon, was found dead in his cell today. It appears that he took his own life because he didn't wish to be put to trial in a false court.

Lady Jasmine and Mawgwaine from the Ranger Enforcers of Sosaria found the body. Solomon alerted the Highland Guard, but Jakob didn't come to see the body. After a bit, it was decided that it would be best to search his body.

Besides some food and water, only a book was found on his body. The book seemed to mumblings from a man that had already assured himself that he was meant to die in his cell.

After reading the book, Solomon and Jasmine felt it would be best to go and investigate Lakeshire and see if anything could be found.

It was also interesting to note how Ryth claimed that Rath was no puppet of his, but that he had tried several times to corrupt him. Jasmine was told to keep the book in her care so that nothing would happen to it.

From Solomon:

People of Sosaria! We hope to act fast and maybe catch these people Ryth refers to in Lakeshire before they leave. Please, we beg that Britannia's brightest and best help us try and solve this puzzle. Something is amdist, and to ignore it would only spell trouble for us. We plan to gather at 8 CST in Skara Brae, at the Town Hall, this Tuesday. We will immediately head out and try to find out what exactly has been happening in Lakeshire. May the Mother watch over us all!

You were given plenty of warning Fools! Messages were received and ignored now you shall live with the consequences of your foolishness.

Our attempts to rule will not cease. Do not cross us again or our true wraith will be felt!

Word has been sent to Highland Guard, House of Stonesoul, The 1st Army and to the Ranger Enforcers of Sosaria. Reports coming back indicate that their investigations into the heinous murder of Rath Stonesoul will be top priority.

This reporter has to wonder... Is this dead Rath the "Real" Rath or the "Imposter" Rath?

Chapter: 6
The True Heart Seeker

Reports of the capture of Lore Denin kept pouring in. The Ankh and their allies continued to follow the false leads. First the investigation had lead to the Temple of Mondain, then to the drow of Bregan D'artha. There was no telling what direction these rumors would next lead the search. Despite the best leads concerning Lore's capture, all would prove false. For he was in hiding of his own accord; a prisoner to his royal duty nonetheless.

Lore drummed his fingers on the desk in font of him. Lord Dupre had asked him to go into hiding until all preparations for the ascension of the new King of Britannia had been set. Lore had disappeared without a trace. Giving word to no one, not even his closest friends or advisors in the Ankh of Unity of why or where he had gone. Lore had to remain in hiding until the new Lord of Britannia was announced, for he was the messenger that had brought the documents from lineage and the only witness to Lord British's royal decree.

It was time to come back into the public eye. Plans were being set into motion and the land would finally have a new King. Lore was to return to the Ankh and investigate the truth behind Rath Stonesoul's erratic behavior and prepare the Ankh and there allies for a new Lord.

The rumors of Lore Denin's capture would no longer distract the Ankh and her Allies from Temple and Drow's true purpose and activities. For Lore Denin had returned.

Chapt er 5

"Lord Dupre, the letter seems to be legitimate. The hand writing matches, the seal is that of Lord British and the proper words and order are used for that of a royal decree. If the letter is a forgery, it has been so well conceived that the scholars of the court are unable to tell it from the real thing?"

"Would it be possible to create such a forgery?"Dupre asked the question to the court mage, but never shifted his gaze from the courtyard of the castle.

"It is highly unlikely, but nothing is beyond the realm of possibility. I do not think given even a few years I could produce a forgery so accurate, which leads me to believe this is no forgery at all." The court mage paused for a second shifting uncomfortably in his robes. "There are other elements that add to its credibility."

For the first time Lord Dupre averted his gaze from the courtyard and turned his full attention on the scholar, "What elements?"

"For one, the paper used is quite unique, made from a tree bark we have been unable to identify. The ink as well is unique, and we are unsure of its origins. It appears the materials used to construct the letter are not of Sosaria, giving creditability to Lore Denin's claim to have reached Lineage. "

"I see... What of the gate opened? What did you uncover?"

"The Ankh of Unity has shared its research with us freely and it appears from the volumes of gate, facet and dimension travel, they did have the means to open a portal to another world. I compared the Ankh's research with the notes Nystul left behind, and it indicates the gate they opened would lead to be the same world our liege has gone, the land known as Lineage."

Dupre turned his head back to the courtyard with an acknowledging nod. "I knew from the first sentence that it had been my dear friend, Lord British, who wrote the letter. What has had me stumped is his choice for the throne. I expected one of the court, perhaps Lord or Baron. Someone with more political ties and familiarity with the intrigues of politics."

"Do you doubt the character of the King to be?"

"No, not at all. You will not find a better person in the entire kingdom. Never have I met a person so dedicated to helping others, even those who may call him enemy."

"Surely if this person is as you claim, Lord British has not erred."

"He is a good person but will he be a strong King? The kingdom is falling apart in front of us. The Temple of Mondain has conquered Moonglow, the city of Vesper has declared itself an independent city state under the protection of the Temple, Occulo city has been taken and Lord StoneSoul is barely holding on to Skara Brae. In all this time, Britannia has been unable to gather its army and drive out these forces. Though the Temple is powerful, it does not have a huge army. In the past such a small force would never have dared enter our borders. Today they make those borders their own."

Dupre looked to the court mage and nodded. The process had been delayed long enough Britannia needed a King. He would trust in his King and start the process of ascension, "Prepare the paper work, and make a public announcement. Britannia will have a new King."

"Do you wish me to inform the New Lord Regent and make the preparations?"

"No, I shall go in person. We are old comrades. I think this will come as quite a shock and he will need time and my help to prepare."

Bad News!

We do not have Fredrick in custody, this leaves us no bargaining power to

rescue Lore! And I have found this, it looks like a page from Mordains Journal!

The Dark Veil  By Mordian

The rain poured upon Mordain's window as he stood looking out upon the desert. Lightning crashed in the background and lit the room like an explosion of great magic, but the Dark Lord diden't move. Thinking to himself he knew all the preparations, all the hard work was at last about to pay off.

He stood in the window for some time until the rain had receded and the cold of the desert began to set in. Suddenly his raven landed on its perch with a message. Mordain turned from the window and walked calmly over and began to read the message.

"Lord Mordain,
Word has come that there will be an attempt to arrest either you or myself very soon. The allied forces continue to look for Lore Denin and search for the answers that you hold about his disappearance and our plans. The Highland Guard have been snooping into our business in Skara Brae, The Citizens of Britannia and our new enemy 1st Army of Britannia both seek clues of Lore Denin. The Ranger guild of Skara Brae have also made inquiries to both mysteries and plan to arrest both Eliza and Ayriana. The man charged with this task is named Trullivan, I believe he is the same person who we fought many days ago and is now within the ranks of the Highland Guard. Everything is going according to plan as you have specified it. I shall return soon from my quest to find Jasmine.

-Fredrick"

Mordain put the note down on his desk, smiled and began to think to himself. "Very good....with all these distractions they wont know up from down." Mordain walked to his balcony and sat down. All at once a gate opened and the combine forces of the 1st army of Britannia, and the Citizens in Defense of Britannia Swarmed the doors of the Temple. Mordain stood from his balcony with a grin on his face knowing that they had come to capture him or rescue Lord Denin. Stepping from his throne on the balcony he stepped over to the edge and began to call out.

"What brings you to my temple?" Dovolick stepped forward, "We demand the release of Lore Denin and demand to take Fredrick your General into custody!" Mordain laughed and replied. "Its a pity, the General is out on my personal business, and you are in the position to demand nothing." Dovolick began to laugh but then realized why the dark lord was not phased by his army. Several members of the temple suddenly appeared and began casting spells. "As you can see, Your life now depends upon you leaving my desert." Mordain charged. Dovolick grabbed his bow and let an arrow fly towards Mordain almost hitting him....Mordain's face grew into anger and ordered an all out attack.

The attack lasted till only a few were left. Mordain then called out, "Capture Dovolick!" Just then he was nocked off his horse and captured. With the last remnants of the raiding force destroyed Mordain took Dovolick into the dungeon of the temple. For many hours Mordain talked with Dovolick. As Mordain emerged from the Dungeons he called out to Scribbles to prepair Dovolick for trial.

As Scribbles entered the dungeon he noticed that Dovolick was gone. He ran up the stairs into the main chamber where Mordain and the rest of the Temple had gathered. "M'lord! M'lord! Dovolick is gone!" Mordain smiled, all is well Scribbles let us not worry about him anymore tonight. Scribbles then realized what was going on. Mordain then turned to Fredrick who was holding a bottle with what seemed to be smoke. "Lord, my mission was successful, I retrieved the essence of the second Gem of Souls, that which you needed." Fredrick put the bottle on the black alter. Mordain smiled. "At last! that which was kept from me has now been returned, with the essence of this bottle I shall be able to return MY Gem to full power!" Mordain smiled wickedly as he tucked the potion into his robes. "We must prepare for the ritual. In two days from now we will begin! We must attain the correct reagents." Mordain pulled an old book from his robe, a book that hasn't been seen in many years, upon the cover was a skull and an ancient text. Looking at the book the members of the Temple knew it could be only one thing, the book of Necromancy.

Mordain began to flip through the pages. When he got to towards the end of the book he paused. "Ah yes" he began. He looked sharply at Fredrick, "I need the following reagents Fredrick and your task it to attain them." Mordain began to jot off the reagents..."A rib of a Balron, a Black Dragon Skale, two Sulfuric ash from the entrance of Cove and finally the bone of a deamon." Fredrick nodded. It will be done.....

Investigation Continues
[Lealla] June 18 - 3:01 PM EDT
From the Desk of: Lealla, Editor in Chief

It seems as the investigation into the allegations of a Lord Rath imposter continues, several people deeply involved have received death threats.

An older woman, going by the name Eliza, has delivered several messages similar to the one below:

Eliza has been spotted in the city of Skara Brae. On all occasions she was seen wearing a dark cloak, plain brown dress and red boots. She is described as an old woman with white hair, but very quick on her feet. Several have reported that she seems to just "vanish into thin air" and that "one moment she is there the next gone".

In a late night meeting, Lord Geoffrey of Cove, Lead investigator for the Highland Guard, with others close to the investigation reviewed all evidence gathered thus far and discussed this woman Eliza.

A request is being issued to all citizens, If this Eliza is seen please detain her unharmed and notify a member of the Highland Guard, The First Army, House of Stonesoul or the Ranger Enforcers of Sosaria. The Ranger Enforcers are offering a 10,000gp reward if Eliza is turned over unharmed.

This Just In Dark Fool has just added 90,000 gp from his own pocket, increasing the reward to 100,000gp

A Spy's Report
Submitted Friday, June 14, 2002 - 2:32:56 PM by Nick Seafort
Nick SeafortSubmitted by “The Mouse”

Milord, the life of a spy ain't glamorous and excitin'. Cor blimey guv, would I lie to you? It’s more often borin', lonely, and dirty. I 'ad 'eaded ter Skara Brae, since I 'eard there were a frenzy of activity concernin' many of me employer’s interests. Wot wiv the bloomin' jailed cultists, the bleedin' URK raids, the bleedin' Mondainites, the Stonesouls, right, the Army of Britannia, right, the Coven of the Secret Shadow, the Stalwart Marauders, the Ranger Enforcers, and a dozen uvver groups all plannin' and counter-plannin' , I were bound ter find a golden nugget or two of valuable information.

So there I were wiv me loaf of bread bent over the table at the local tavern pretendin' ter be passed out, wen I noticed a couple chalk in. One were a tall and obviously strong man in full armor. By the crest on the bloomin' armor and 'is poise I could tell 'e were one of them 'igh rankin' Knights of the bloody Stonesoul 'ousehold. The bleedin' barkeep were overly attentive ter this fellow and served'im right oray, callin' 'im Captain Willigan.

Well, right, this Willigan chap came in walkin' almost 'and-in-'and wiv Jasmine. Now, I immediately recognized Jasmine, since I 'ad spied on 'er on more than one occasion - given that she is the bloomin' daughter of the bloody infamous Basil Stag 'are, and a prime target of the bleedin' Temple ofMondain. I knew me employer would want ter foil any plans that the bloomin' Temple would 'ave of takin' that wee ringg of 'ers. Wee ringg… 'arharhar. That ringg 'as such a pretty and big stone, and if it were not for it’s curse, it would 'ave 'alf of the ffieves guild followin' 'er ter try ter nick it.

So any road, this Willigan fellow is carryin' on wiv Jasmine and it is obvious that 'e is more than somewot taken wiv 'er, wot wiv the way 'e breaffed deep and stared long at 'er. And Jasmine were right evidently pleased wiv the chuffin' attention she were receivin'. They 'appened ter sit at the bloomin' booff next ter mine, right, and wen they were not 'ave a lookin', I used me own ringg – of invisibility.

I thought ter myself, right, great, they are gonna rabbit and pork like luvers on a first date, and this will eever bore me ter tears or sicken me wiv its sweetness. But ter my 'eart’s delight it were much more than a luver’s meet. They went on of Ryth and on 'ow 'e 'ad been captured and 'eld in the Stonesoul jail, init? And mostly they went on about Jasmine’s father.

Well, it turns out that Jasmine wants 'er father resurrected, and wants ter do all she can ter help brin' 'im back, even if it means workin' wiv the evil blokes that are gafferin' the items ter do the chuffin' resurrection. She even 'as given 'er own blood voluntarily ter the witch Ariyana Sune as a component for the resurrection spell. I'll get out me spoons. And towards this task she sat there enlistin' the help of the chuffin' poor Willigan 'oo seemed ter have fallen completely in luv wiv 'er.

Willigan were torn between 'is loyalty ter Lord Rath Stonesoul and 'is luv for Jasmine. Willigan refused ter arrange ter have Ryth escape 'is jail cell as Jasmine proposed. Willigan asked Jasmine wot 'e could do ter help 'er. Jasmine told 'im ter help brin' back her father. Willigan said that 'e would do all 'e could ter help 'er, and warned that Rath should not learn of 'is 'elp in this or else 'e would lose 'is right dear knight’ood.

Now, milord, right, I must clarify that the two Pansy Potters did not seem ter have evil intent. Jasmine is a poor lass 'oo lost 'er father at an early age and that feels responsible for her father’s deaff. Seems 'er bruther, Ramirez – aye, THE Ramirez – blames 'er runnin' oray from 'ome as the cause of 'er father’s actions that led 'im ter his deaff. Jasmine just wants ter see 'er father again and set fings right. Poor, daft child. And Willigan just wants ter brin' some 'appiness ter Jasmine’s life. The two mean well, but are misguided, but I leave it ter yer, sire, right, to decide, for I'm but the bloomin' mince pies and ears.

Jakob Covenant finished reading the parchment just recently delivered by one of the Highland Guard’s couriers. After reading it, he carefully placed the parchment in the strongbox behind him.

Lord Stonesoul,

I will not beat around the bush. You have ordered the execution of a dear friend, and by the standards of our beliefs, an innocent.

You have shown yourself to be as ruthless, if not more than General Nero. For our beliefs we are being hunted, persecuted, and put to death. So in my mind, an eye for an eye would be simple justice.

For every Cultist that you execute, I will put to death an innocent, and banish his or her soul to the Void where the Black One will see to it that they live in eternal punishment. Take from this warning what you will, but it would not sit well with the council if so many innocents were killed without trying to negotiate some sort of
truce.

Farland/GLA Dungeon Crawl Report
Submitted Tuesday, June 11, 2002 - 3:58:49 PM by Nick Seafort
Nick Seafortvia Stratics:

Hail Great Lakes

Our Shard Dungeon Crawl to the Ice Dungeon was a great success. I would like to thank Pappy Farland (FC), Mike Farland (FC), and Donamyte (G*C) for helping coordinate the players that arrived to join in the fun. I would like to thank especially all those players that chose to take part in this event. We had approximately 40 players take part in the crawl and that is what makes them so much fun.

I was asked what a crawl was several times while gating. Well briefly this is when several players get together to romp through a dungeon to have fun. For some it is a chance to see parts of a dungeon they will never again be able to see. When this many players get together there is little that can stop them. Our force this time took the Ice Fiend room and held a little party in he back meeting room. Ice Fiends that tried to crash the party were readily bounced right back out of our room.

We will be holding our next event June 21st, Friday, 7pm CST. We will be meeting at the Compassion shrine in Ilshenar and exploring the area. We hold monthly dungeon crawls the first Friday of every month and then 2 weeks later a raid into Ilshenar from a new shrine. We have a poll up right now at our forums to vote on the next dungeon. We ask anyone wanting to volunteer to work these events to reply on the thread of the event listing in the polling section.

We will also be holding our player luncheon June 22nd, Saturday, 1pm CST in Southern Illinois. This will be our 8th luncheon in the past 4 years. We expect this one to be our best one yet. All the information is listed in our forums. If you need more info just email me at mickey1@midamer.net.

If you want to know more about the Great Lakes Alliance then just come to our site at www.GreatLakesAlliance.com. All those that register for our forums is considered a member. It's free! Our goal is just to provide players a forum to make friends and make the playing experience more enjoyable. We hope to see you in the forums.

From Stratics

On the MyUO Discussion Boards, Sannio (Online Content Coordinator) explained the grace period as it pertains to grandfathered houses:

Although the primary documentation that describes the house changes that will be part of the next major publish ("Publish 16") indicates that Condemning houses on an inactive account will be immediate, we posted a follow-up FYI entitled "Proposed Amendment to Player Housing Changes" that states:

"Furthermore we are proposing adding a 10-day grace period to inactive accounts. This grace period means your houses will only be flagged as inactive 10 days after your account actually goes inactive, if the account is still inactive at that time. To be clear, the term “inactive” does not refer to how often the account is logged in or played - it only refers to whether the actual subscription is active, meaning it has not been cancelled or suspended, and the monthly fee is paid."

In other words, within that 10 day grace period nothing would change in your housing situation, except of course your houses would continue to naturally decay. They would not become Condemned, however, until after that 10th day of the grace period.
